Play! by Sephora Subscription Box Review - February 2018

Feel the Love

This is a review of a monthly cosmetic subscription box for only $10 from Sephora. There are several different boxes they send out each month, but each one includes five samples and usually a perfume sample. The one I received has a retail value of $29.13. That's one of the lowest retail values I've received so far. Included in this month's box were the following products:
  1. Sephora - Rouge Matte Lipstick in Rebel Chic, made in Italy, .035 oz., $2.45 sale price, $4.37 retail value
  2. Lancôme - Monsieur Big Mascara, made in France, .06 fl. oz., $4.54 retail value
  3. Sephora - Cream Lip Stain in Always Red, made in Italy, .04 fl. oz., $3.31 retail value
  4. First Aid Beauty - Ginger & Tumeric Vitamin C Jelly Mask, made in the USA, .75 oz., $6.00 retail value
  5. Belif Moisturizing Eye Bomb, made in Korea, .17 fl. oz., $9.71 retail value
  6. Viktor & Rolf - Flowerbomb, made in France, .04 fl. oz., $1.20 retail value
I'm disappointed they sent me two lipsticks and both from their brand and that the retail value of this box is quite low compared to previous boxes. Plus, they have sent me the Always Red Lip Stain in a previous box. I don't wear bright red lipstick, so that will be placed in my blog sale box. Not to mention the lip stain is on sale and sold out. The point of these samples is to find products we want to buy the full size of, so if it's sold out then we can't purchase it! I always enjoy receiving Lancôme products, but I have quite a few mascaras already waiting to be used. Since mascaras dry out once you open them, it will be awhile before I get a chance to sample that one. I also enjoy receiving products from First Aid Beauty. The mask is suppose to comfort and brighten stressed out skin. That is certainly my skin after having pneumonia for two weeks and not having the energy to do anything other than wash it. It has a cooling effect and it's easy to apply since it has a jelly consistency. It's suppose to be left on only ten minutes. I put it on while writing this post and it has really sunk into the skin. It's not laying on the top like most masks do. It takes just a little bit, so the .75 oz trial size shall last quite a while. It can be applied up to three times a week. It put some moisture into my skin which I needed. Since it's so easy and quick to apply and it's not hard to wash off, I can see myself using it three times a week. I also like the Belif brand, so I'm happy to receive an eye moisturizer from them. It has a botanical formula that is suppose to give the skin around the eyes a firmer appearance. It will take quite a few uses to see if it helps. My main problem is puffiness. It has a gel consistency with a bit of a cooling effect and it sinks into the skin well. Having been ill for two weeks, scents really irritate me, so today is the first time in two weeks I've used a perfume. I'm still not 100%, so it's a bit difficult to rate a perfume at this point. Flowerbomb is suppose to be warm & spicy with notes of jasmine, orange blossom and patchouli. I mostly smell a spicy patchouli scent which I'm not crazy about. The Sephora Matte Lipstick in Rebel Chic has a dark red wine color and it doesn't feel dry on the lips which is rare for a matte lipstick. It's a nice color for fall and winter. It has quite a bit of staying power. After I had a snack, it was still in place.

My favorite items in this month's box are the Belif Eye Bomb and the First Aid Beauty Mask. I don't have a large stash of eye creams and I'm always up to trying another mask, plus they have the highest retail values. I'll be using everything in the box except the perfume and the bright red lip stain. One of the reasons I have stayed subscribed to this cosmetic subscription box the longest is because of the high quality brands they always send and the low price of $10. While some months I'm annoyed at what they sent, overall it is my current favorite. What's your favorite cosmetic subscription box?

  1. My favorite box is Julep. I love picking exactly what I want. I hope my play box does not arrive with red lippies. No thanks! I already got a Sephora matte liquid in a previous box! UGH. Thanks for sharing!!!
